Rebellion Magnum 540 – Sapphire case worth it?

In a sense it’s pretty cool you can see everything inside, however some would say it looks cheap because though sapphire, it can also look plastic.

Rebellion is an edgy brand with technically extravagant watches; Rebellion regularly pushes boundaries. The Magnum 540 Sapphire it is the latest example of this competitive mindset focused on technology and performance. The case of this unique piece is made entirely out of sapphire crystal, the most resistant and scratchproof material on earth after diamond. The case is composed of eight different parts, each of which was machined from a solid block the size of a baseball. It took one and a half years and three prototypes for Hepta Swiss, the supplier in this case, to achieve this result.

This transparent cathedral deserves special attention as it provides direct access to all the details the movement. For instance, the super large flying tourbillon measuring 17.2 mm in diameter – one of the biggest on the market – is clearly visible. Mounted on a ceramic ball bearing, its cage is made out of a special aluminum alloy. The bridges and the main plate are crafted in titanium. Finally, what matters for this manual winding watch is that the power reserve goes up to 12 days, or 99 hours, which is, again, very rare. Introduced during the SIHH week in January 2016, it is available for 1.8 million Swiss francs. Start saving!
